We’re inviting patients like you to take part in XFIT: An Exercise-based Frailty Intervention in Lung
Transplant Candidates, a study designed to help people waiting for a lung transplant stay
stronger and healthier. The goal of XFIT study is to measure the safety of an 8-week telehealth-
delivered exercise and behavioral training program to treat frailty in lung transplant candidates
in their own home. First, we want to make sure the program is safe by closely monitoring for
serious health events. We're also looking at how easy it is for patients to join, stick with, and
complete the program—and how satisfied you are with the experience. Finally, we want to see if
XFIT can help improve your strength, endurance, and overall well-being before your transplant.
As part of the screening process to see if you qualify for the main study, you may be asked to
complete a short physical function test, a grip strength test, a blood draw, a body composition
scan, a 6-minute walk, surveys about your health and daily activities, and wear activity monitors
like a Fitbit or a wristwatch-style device—some of which can be done virtually or may not need
to be repeated if recently completed. What we learn could help shape future care for transplant
patients and offer better support during this critical time.
